Grootbos lies near Genoelselderen in Riemst and provides a simple official overnight stop for slow travellers. It opens onto Haspengouw’s orchards, farming villages and unpaved walking tracks.

Rules for your stay

  • Free advance reservation is required.
  • Stay for no more than one night and respect the posted arrival and departure times.
  • Use a lightweight trekking tent and the designated pitches.
  • The site is for travellers arriving on foot or by bicycle; cars are not allowed at the bivouac site.
  • Respect the peace and natural surroundings, and take all waste away with you.
  • Fire is allowed only in a designated fire basket and when wildfire conditions permit.

Haspengouw Regional GR

This bivouac site belongs to the network along the Haspengouw Regional GR and the cycling network. The main loop is about 130 km long, while signed shortcuts allow shorter multi-day itineraries. Follow the white-red and yellow-red waymarks on the ground.
